The Academy - The Sheffield School of Health & Beauty
The Academy was established by The Sheffield School of Health and Beauty as a "Centre of Excellence" for young learners.
A key part of the Government's 14-19 strategy is for schools to provide a broader curriculum for their learners and to give vocational and work-related opportunities for 14-16 year-olds. The Academy was established to meet this need in Health and Beauty in Sheffield. It was initially located at The Sheffield School of Health and Beauty. As the provision expanded, we acquired a new building which now houses this provision and has been refurbished to the highest standard with all brand new resources. The Academy is located at 92 Trippet Lane, Sheffield, S1 4EL.
The intake of 14-16 learners has more than doubled this year with over 100 learners now studying on a City and Guilds Level 2 Beauty Consultancy course. The course is part of a range of vocationally related courses supported by Sheffield City Council and designed to provide students with a broad curriculum, raise their aspirations, give them transferable skills and support their continued engagement with their formal education.
Our partnership with the local authority and the schools in Sheffield has been very successful. It has provided the young learners with a unique opportunity to develop new skills and gain a qualification and we enjoy having the learners studying with us.
The Academy gives its students the best possible preparation for further study and work in the growing health and beauty sector. It has the facilities and the expertise to prepare students for success in the industry. The students are able to study in an attractive and well equipped environment which is also relaxed, friendly and conducive to learning. Tuition takes place in small study groups with expert tutors, all of whom have extensive industry and teaching experience. Students and their tutors enjoy friendly and productive working relationships.
Feedback from the learners is excellent. They all enjoy studying at the school and like the fact that their course is very practical. They comment that all tutors are very helpful, give them a lot of guidance and support and they review their progress regularly.
